Jam of The Day: Vampire Weekend - Cousins

You should like the song "Cousins" by Vampire Weekend because after you spend a while watching a few videos of their live performance you have built a certain respect for Ezra Koening (spell check that one). Anyway, that's what I did and now this jam is stuck in my head even though I thought that I didn't really like Vampire Weekend, which is still partially true. I listened to the album in its entirety the other day (yes, without skipping through!) and it wasn't that good, but this song is fantastic. Good choice for a single, eh?

Moving Images: Vampire Weekend - Cousins

UPDATE: After listening to their album in it's entirety, all the way through, I've realized that Cousins is pretty much the only jam I have any love for.

2010 is pretty spiffy thus far. So I think I officially enjoy Vampire Weekend now. I had beef with them before but then I saw a clip of their live performance from Pitchfork and I fucking loved it and now I watched their music video which was amazing and now I like them. Anyway, here it is for your enjoyment:

So let's talk about some new jamz that are heading to CR1 this week:

We have an amazing new record from Beach House and I'm really really digging it. It's pretty and beautiful but not too boring. We also have a new-ish record from JEFF the brotherhood who are pretty awesome. Let's keep talking though, because there's tons of other awesome things like one of my favorite bands released an LP. If you liked the Soft Pack EP that was released last year, be sure to check out their new LP released on Kemado records. It's not nearly as good, but it's still fun. And of course, I'm sure plenty of you are excited about the Motion City Soundtrack record that was just released. Pretty exciting adds. I like having good adds coming in to the studio. There will probably also be an awesome debut LP from one of my new favorite bands called Sleepies.

And you shouldn't forget about all of the awesome stuff that we still have in CR1 like Animal Collective's Fall Be Kind EP, Real Estate's debut LP, and the new amazing record from Final Fantasy / Owen Pallett. Also there's a really great split from Truman Peyote and Many Mansions filed in CR1 under "New Jamz". Many of you missed the wonderful jamz of Growlers and Willowz which both released awesome LPs at the tail end of 2009. Be sure to give those two records a listen because they are so worth it. And of course, there's still the Tom Waits record and the Black Keys' new project, Blakroc.

More Info:

The Best Coast is an awesome surf punk band from the west coast. If you like The Drums or The Vivian Girls, definitely give this one a listen. The Soft Pack is another awesome west coast punk band that I absolutely love, but I'm not crazy about the single. It's still pretty good, but not as good as some of the songs from their Muslims EP released in 2009. I'm pretty excited about their upcoming LP in 2010. Vampire Weekend. Well, Vampire Weekend. Hmm. Punk that is poppy and super fun. I'm not a Vampire Weekend fan. But I think I might this single better than some of the stuff from their last LP. It has more balls. Look out for their LP coming out in early 2010! How could you not love Los Campesinos!? I'm not sure how I feel about this single. It sounds like every other Los Campesinos! song that I've ever heard. I think I just need to really listen to it as opposed to being background music. Usually Los Campesinos take a while to grow on me and then I can't stop listening to it. New LP in 2010! One of the most hyped albums for 2010 is definitely with out a doubt the new Beach House record being released on SubPop. I don't know why I like Hot Chip. I never thought I did, but then I always found myself listening to it. Hot Chip = Baby Making Jamz. It's a solid dance jam. Andrew Cedermark is awesome. Please listen to the two new songs he released with Family Portrait on a split 7" on Under Water Peoples. They are both awesome bands and Mega Secrets by Family Portrait just might be one of my favorite songs of all time. Andrew Cedermark & Family Portrait = Awesome Jamz. It's kind of strange that Sharon Jones of Daptone Records somehow ended up on the same mix CD as Andrew Cedermark and Fucked Up. Strange things do happen here at WUSB. This is probably my favorite of all of the Holiday jamz we've gotten thus far. It's awesome and you should play it if you're in the holiday spirit. The new Fucked Up holiday benefit jam is also on this wonderful mix CD. It's a cover of the infamous "Do They Know It's Christmas." Members of Yo La Tengo, TV on The Radio, Vampire Weekend, and more which I just forgot. I've also included a Christmas Island jam, although it's not legitimate holiday music. But it's awesome nonetheless. The Forro in The Dark jam is a really awesome instrumental cover of Santa Claus is Coming To Town and highly encourage you to check it out. It will definitely be rocking out on Oprah's Handbag. Enjoy the new singles for 2010 releases and madd holiday music!

And I couldn't download this one, but it's a new Magnetic Fields jam that's Holiday-ish. Feel free to play it! New Magnetic Fields stuff in 2010!
