Jam of The Day: Future Islands - In The Fall

Future Islands have been making music together since 2006 and just recently in 2009 signed to an awesome label based in Chicago called Thrill Jockey Records. I feel like I'm always uber repetitive when I write reviews and I tend to say, "wow this band is fucking awesome live!" Well, Future Islands are probably one of the best and creepiest live acts I've seen thus far. This synth pop band from Baltimore will have you feeling super uncomfortable as the lead singer, Sam Herring, locks his eyes with yours as you observe his facial expression gripping onto every emotional note he sings. It's quite dramatic and eerie at first, but then once you get over his unusually theatrical performance, you realize you're at the best dance party of the year. That's what it was like when I first Future Islands probably about a year ago. I thought they were quite good live but I never really enjoyed their recordings until I listened to their new EP, "In The Fall." It's actually kind of brilliant and I think you'll definitely enjoy the jamz on there. I've burnt a copy for the station. The best song on the EP is the title track, "In The Fall."
*The picture above is actually from the epic show I went to back during CMJ, which will totally be happening again on May 1st at the same place!
