Thank You

Listening to Thank You is like being in an insane noisy tribal trance. The Baltimore trio just released Golden Worry on Thrill Jockey Records. Their sound is something like Aa meets Angelo Spencer meets Foals. Can't/Can is a track that starts off driving hard into your skull and the bursts into something a bit more poppy with vocals that feel far away and then screws your skull again and then breaks into this very solitary moment with soft percussion and organs and then builds into this kind of monumental orchestral chaos. It almost feels like this really brilliant noisy narrative that fucks your head for a good six minutes, probably one of the greatest six minutes of your life.

Dustin Wong

Infinite Love is the musical adventures of Dustin Wong taken by incredible layers of guitar loops and the rare appearance of the drum machine. Infinite Love is, in many ways, like an RL Stine novel. Remember when you were able to choose the ending of the story? Well, Infinite Love was conceptualized to be experienced as two different journeys which begin on the same path. Wong calls his adventures twins, a brother and sister, that are separated and then rejoined. Each path has magnificent orchestras of webs spun by guitar loops, each one toggled with the magic of a pedal to expand and stretch, building on the fullness of each song. With Infinite Love, Wong has crafted one of the finest records of this year. Check it out in CR1 now!

Jam of The Day: Future Islands - In The Fall

Future Islands have been making music together since 2006 and just recently in 2009 signed to an awesome label based in Chicago called Thrill Jockey Records. I feel like I'm always uber repetitive when I write reviews and I tend to say, "wow this band is fucking awesome live!" Well, Future Islands are probably one of the best and creepiest live acts I've seen thus far. This synth pop band from Baltimore will have you feeling super uncomfortable as the lead singer, Sam Herring, locks his eyes with yours as you observe his facial expression gripping onto every emotional note he sings. It's quite dramatic and eerie at first, but then once you get over his unusually theatrical performance, you realize you're at the best dance party of the year. That's what it was like when I first Future Islands probably about a year ago. I thought they were quite good live but I never really enjoyed their recordings until I listened to their new EP, "In The Fall." It's actually kind of brilliant and I think you'll definitely enjoy the jamz on there. I've burnt a copy for the station. The best song on the EP is the title track, "In The Fall."
*The picture above is actually from the epic show I went to back during CMJ, which will totally be happening again on May 1st at the same place!

Jam of The Day: Double Dagger - Pillow Talk
This picture was taken from what was probably one of my favorite shows of all of 2009! Check out more AMAZING pictures from the NY Rockmarket blog at this link: http://newyorkrockmarket.com/2009/05/24/photos-video-hippos-air-waves-screaming-females-double-dagger-and-the-so-so-glos-at-market-hotel/

One of my favorite bands, Double Dagger, have just released an awesome 5 song EP called Masks on Thrill Jockey Records. If you have not heard of Double Dagger yet, I want to call you a fool, but I won't since I did such a terrible job telling you all about their LP, "More," when it had it's run at WUSB. They are one of the most epic live shows, ever. They're actually playing a show with Future Islands on May 1st which I will tell you is fucking awesome. The same exact line up happened during CMJ and it was definitely the best part of CMJ even though it wasn't even part of CMJ. So now, you understand the god-given qualities that Double Dagger has. Masks is an awesome EP and maybe the jamz on there will grow on me the same way the jamz on "More" did. The jam of the day is a song called Pillow Talk, a song that is fast, angry, and awesomeeeee. Double Dagger, forever. I'm not trying to single any one out, but Chris Phillips, if you don't like Double Dagger yet, you will LOVE them. I think Mark Akner will, too! Also, anyone who may have liked JEFF the brotherhood (although they have a totally different sound).
